It’s interesting being in a new country. I’ve lived abroad several times with the knowledge that I was going back to America. This time I’m here for good and enjoying very second of it! So I find I’m paying attention more to how environment and social expectations effect the way people behave in their particular culture. Having lived in many places I realized people really are the same it is the environment they live in that makes the say the English, English and the American, an American. Below are some great examples of an American finding a place in a new culture. Who really does have right of way on the sidewalk and watch out for cars dashing across the road for your parking spot!
Here in England you can park any which way on the road. If you see a spot pull in! As a person trying to figure which is the proper way to ride a bike down the road, in the beginning, can be very confusing! People here also just pull their cars right up onto the curb to park or just to get out of the way of something on the main road! I almost got run over one day when some one was pulling on to the sidewalk (walkway as it’s referred to here) to park! Thankfully I wasn’t wearing my free spirited Californian hat that day, I may have been run over.
